Great Work at Stanfield Close
Eight residents of Stanfield Close and Lockleaze came together to make a big difference on Stanfield Close green on Thursday. It was lovely weather, loads of fun, and is looking pretty good!
The main task on the table was scything the meadow patch. This is important because it knocks back the grasses, allowing the wildflowers to thrive. The cuttings have to be removed, in order to remove the nutrients which would strengthen the grasses.
Residents learnt how to put together a scythe, sharpen it, scythe, and use a pitch fork! The cuttings were used to mulch the hedgerows, meaning no nutrients going to waste.
We also planted out the lovely plants a Stanfield Close resident had grown from seed: agrimony, cowslips, lady's bedstraw, mallow and more. These seeds were collected by the community from Stoke Park last year, so it was great to see it come to fruition.
