Our lockleaze community plan
In 2017, residents and local organisations undertook a community-wide survey to find out what life was like in Lockleaze, what mattered to residents and what they would like to see happen. Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, managed the process, trained community researchers and worked with local residents and organisations to determine the survey questions and analyse the responses into a series of themes.
Throughout 2018 there were a series of meeting, workshops and focus groups on different topics such as Housing and Transport and Food, and the result was the community plan which was written and finally published in 2019.
This document is a resource about what residents thought at a point in time, what’s happened, what’s planned and what residents would like to happen next. It is not the answers, it is evidence, information and a foundation for what comes next. It means that when people come to develop housing or new businesses in Lockleaze they can read it and be informed about what comes before. It means residents can use it as a resource to help get things done, hold people and organisations to account and self-organise.
In 2021 as part of our community engagement Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust toured 8 housing greens in Lockleaze to listen to residents, connect and see what is happening for them in the community. The results of the engagement can be read here.
our lockleaze community forum
Since March 2018 Lockleaze residents have been meeting twice a year, in March and September on a Saturday for a couple of hours at an accessible, family friendly venue in Lockleaze.
The purpose of these meetings is to support residents to work together to create the change they want to see. This is achieved by:
Using the community plan, action plan and updates as a way to measure progress against community wants and needs
Inviting local councillors, council officers and other relevant people (eg. Police, health service, schools, developers) to provide information and updates to residents and have them answer questions
Support like-minded residents to come together to make things happen in Lockleaze
These forums can lead to working groups, projects, feed into Residents Planning Group, Lockleaze Youth and Play forum (run but the Vench), or directly into Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust work
