National Grid Work & the Wildflower Meadow at Lockleaze Sports Centre

National Grid work & the Wildflower Meadow at Lockleaze Sports Centre

Last autumn, we created 240m2 of wildflower meadow at Lockleaze Sports Centre under the pylons along Concorde Way, with volunteers and residents. Unfortunately the National Grid is now digging up that area to put in new cables.

Residents have been getting in touch with us concerned about the meadow. We agree that it is very unfortunate after all the work that was put in, but the National Grid assures us that they will work with us to reinstate the meadow after their work has been completed. We are hoping they will also put in the extra meadow we were planning to do this Spring as well, as we have had to cancel 4 more meadow making sessions, and are working to negotiate this. We would like to thank the Lockleaze Sports Centre team for working hard to help us communicate with the National Grid, and come to an agreement that works for all of us.

You can read about the work we are doing this year and how to get involved here: https://www.lockleazehub.org.uk/rwl-news/2025/3/5/spring-work-begins-at-lockleaze-sports-centre.

Thanks for all your concern folks!
