Yatton Train Station - Wellbeing Walk and Cafe Trip
We recently organised a Wellbeing Walk and Cafe trip to Yatton. This trip was really well attended and we had a lovely time. Here is a wonderful write up about the trip from one of our regular’s and a local volunteer.
One chilly but fine November morning, a number of us walked with Jonathan from The Hub, past Lockleaze Sports Centre, and along to Filton Abbey Wood station. From the footpath we entered past the ticket office and straight onto Platform One for the train to Yatton.
We were introduced to Faye and two colleagues from the trip’s funders - Severnside Community Rail Partnership - while we waited for others to arrive from Cheswick and Horfield. Faye bought the tickets for all 10 of us from the lady at the ticket office (open until 11.30 during the week), and also showed us where the ticket machines are.
There was much excited chatter on boarding the train. At Yatton we were treated to a lovely lunch at the station’s Strawberry Line community café.
Strawberry Line is the nickname of a Great Western Railway branch line that ran to Cheddar until it closed in the 1960s. Nowadays it’s mostly turned into a walking trail and cycle path.
So after lunch we looked at the cycle hire shop outside and where to join the cycle path. We admired the mural on the container outside showing a train, cycles, birds, flowers and - of course - strawberries.
We all agreed it was a lovely outing, and not to leave it too long until we take the train somewhere again. Thanks to Jonathan for organising it and to Faye for looking after us so well.
