Local resident Geoff tells us about his experience of the most recent Peace of Mind Session

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

I arrived at the Hub for a session with Damien who teaches Mindfulness and relaxation. I had attended his classes late last year so was looking forward to more practice of this relaxation technique.

We all sat in a circle and Damien greeted us all including some new faces in the room. He stated that this was the biggest show within this particular group.

We were encouraged to chat to the person sitting next to us to discover their name and how they had found out about this course which was interesting. I chatted to a person who had  found a leaflet at the Hub so decided to explore further.  I told her that I had found out about this class via Jonathan, walk leader (Hub).

We were then asked to present the person we had been speaking with to the rest of the class.

Damien then talked us through the relaxation technique encouraging us to close our eyes and to concentrate on our breathing sitting as comfortably as possible with legs apart and hands relaxed.

We were guided to concentrate on every breath slowing everything down, taking us all into a relaxed state of mind ,with the aim of putting aside any worries or stresses and just being in the moment.

We were later asked to gradually open our eyes and come back into the room.  When asked most people stated they had benefitted by this technique and it was suggested they could practice further at home.

To sum up, I left this class in a much better state of mind, feeling more relaxed and calm.

A big thank you to Damien!
