Lockleaze Youth Eco Team Project Update Feb 2025

Exciting Developments in Lockleaze: Eco-Friendly Initiatives and Upcoming Nature Festival

The Lockleaze Climate Action Group has been bustling with activity this December, and we’re excited to share some of our latest endeavours.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we created a series of engaging videos that highlight ways to have an eco-friendly Christmas. Released on Instagram reels, these videos not only shared useful tips but also conveyed fascinating facts about sustainability, all crafted by our talented young members.

Building on this momentum, our group has decided to take it a step further by organizing the Lockleaze Climate Nature Festival in collaboration with the Really Wild Lockleaze. This festival aims to celebrate our local environment and promote climate awareness, and we can’t wait to welcome the community to join in the fun!

One of our key focuses has been to engage local schools in this initiative. In an exciting twist, we discovered the presence of a rare species in Lockleaze—the Great Crested Newt. Tocelebrate this unique find, we will be hosting a competition where students can design decorations for large models of these newts. This initiative not only raises awareness about local wildlife but also provides a creative platform for students to showcase their talents.

In addition to these activities, our young participants have been gaining invaluable skills and insights into what it takes to plan and execute a successful festival. Their enthusiasm and dedication have been truly inspiring!

Behind the scenes, our Artistic Director, Jody Cook, has been busy crafting the script for an audio play that will transport attendees into a vision of the future—imagine life in 2060 and how we can shape it for the better. This immersive experience will be a highlight of the festival, inviting everyone to reflect on our role in creating a sustainable world. It will also tour around Lockleaze early June.

We’re thrilled about the journey ahead and look forward to bringing our community together for the Lockleaze Climate Nature Festival. Stay tuned for more updates, and let’s make a positive impact together!
