Monday Motivation - Alien Dance Company!

Monday Motivation #ActiveLockleaze Project Spotlight On

As part of our partnership project #ActiveLockleaze we like to feature regular posts for our Monday Motivation or Spotlight On section.

This is just one of the ways we promote physical activities and sports opportunities in Lockleaze. By sharing participants; personal stories we aim to inspire and motivate and encourage all residents to lead more active lives.

This week we focus on three amazing young people who attend Alien Dance Company.

‘I got involved with Alien Dance Company because me and my sister used to do Cheerleading

but it didn’t really help me progress the way Alien dance company has. A friend recommended it

to my mum and we came along to their first session and haven’t looked back. I was really

nervous about making new friends but I have made so many new buddies! It feels like a family.

The amount of fun we all have in classes surprised me so much but we always work super hard

too. My confidence has improved so much since joining and I now can confidently dance in front

of hundreds at dance competitions and shows.’

Ryan Leigh Barrett. Age 12.

‘I moved to Alien Dance Company after leaving my old dance school due to wanting more

progressive training! I like to dance because I am very competitive and enjoy doing competitions

on the weekend with the school. Covid stopped my journey in dance but when it all settled down

I was able to smash my goals with Alien Dance Company. I missed a lot of training due to Covid

but was overwhelmed with happiness when I was back in the studio with my dance teachers

and friends. I have benefited from dancing as most people my age struggle to find a hobby to

focus on, so I am lucky to have dance to keep me focused and on the right path. With my focus,

I have massively surprised myself with how much I have improved with Alien Dance Company.

They always offer amazing opportunities and I get to try so many new things.’

Gracie Mae Baker. Age 17

‘I started dancing because I wanted an extracurricular activity after school and I felt like I didn’t

fit into any other sports. Before joining I was super worried about my Asthma as it always held

me back with my other sports. As well as my Asthma, I struggle with double jointed shoulders

which I thought would make me unable to do certain things and not make any progress but the

teachers have adapted and embraced my Hypermobility! There is an endless list of benefits I

have gained from dance but I enjoy staying fit and healthy most of all. The whole school was so

welcoming and I feel like I am part of an amazing family.

Royale Noble. Age 14.
