Wellbeing Wednesday

Wellbeing walks

On Wednesday 11th May four hardy local walkers braved the rain to take a stroll with Lockleaze Strollers to the BT Tower.

All the walkers enjoyed getting out in the fresh air and chatting together.   We took some time to notice different landmarks and things of interest. We all came back to the hubbub cafe for a cuppa and some tasty treats after the walk.

It would be great to see you on our next walk on Wednesday 15th June.  We meet at the Hub at 10.25am and we walk gently for upto 90 minutes.

For further information please pop into the Hub and ask to speak with Jonathan, the Wellbeing Navigator. (Tuesday to Thursday)

Fascinating Foraging

Steve England recently led a fascinating foraging walk in Stoke Park, weaving through the Sculpture Trails into the woods.

Steve loves being outdoors and he is such a gifted communicator of all things wild.

I was fortunate to join this group of friendly refugees exploring the lush local area . I was Steve's assistant and also the group photographer.

Some of the things growing were familiar to those on the walk whilst many were new and brought suitable 'oohs' and 'aahs'. Many of the people on the walk enjoyed seeing lots of dogs out for their walk. One of the walkers spotted a breed of dog native to their own country.

Steve knows his onions- which are growing in parts of Stoke Park, alongside the long grass. A little red mark on some of the onions make them easier to spot.

Stoke Park is awash with wild garlic which is yummy and came in handy for making our lunch tasty.

Everyone helped to collect the firewood as we made a fire and we all picked our own stick. This stick came in handy as we cooked garlic bread over the fire (even better than marshmallows!)

I also discovered the delights of cooked Halloumi cheese which I made later on at home for my family.

The walkers all enjoyed having a different day out in the woods. They liked connecting further together and exploring the woods as it's such a lovely thing to do.
