First SNUG home home-made in Lockleaze

Down at the Wordsworth Centre, Ecomotive self build organisation and local community trainees have had a very different lockdown to the rest of us. As construction has largely continued throughout, this committed group of professionals and volunteers have regularly met to make this modular zero carbon modular home, made from local and sustainable materials and designed to have almost no electricity bills and minimise waste water.

Self build pioneer Jackson Moulding has been promoting the benefits of building your own home as means of both diversifying the housing market and also building strong successful communities for years. The SNUG home is method that allows those with no prior knowledge of house building to build their home or their new neighbours home and also demonstrate a high commitment to sustainable construction and reinventing the construction industry to be caring, welcoming and inclusive.

Colours painted between wooden slats are of the sustainable development goals that this project is in part delivering.

The home built in several parts in Lockleaze was then moved to Hillfields where it is now sited and will house a refugee through the cities sanctuary project. Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust will team up with Ecomotive to build the next SNUG homes in Turner Gardens garage site in Lockleaze.
