Community forum and cake- the perfect plan for a rainy Saturday

This Saturday 1-3pm we have the Our Lockleaze Community forum. Thanks to Asda community support we’re well supplied with cake, there are some fun activities for big and little kids alike so it’s a good opportunity to get out the house, meet some neighbours, find out some community information and eat some cake.

Held twice a year these meetings are a chance for residents to get together, chat about stuff that matters to them and how they can work together to make positive changes. First hour is chatting around different tables and second hour is feedback and a chance to ask questions. Local councillors are there for residents to ask questions, hear what they’re up to and respond to resident concerns, and we invite Council officers, developers, the Police and others to keep us up to date, answer questions , and work with residents to find solutions to issues in the community. Just because we invite them, doesn’t mean they come- but we do have those overseeing housing development in Council land (that’s most of the development in Lockleaze), officers developing a Lockleaze local letting a policy (so new social housing in Lockleaze benefits local residents in housing need),Councillors and some other interesting tables and information, including Climate Action, Well-being in Lockleaze and Lockleaze waste warriors. It can be tempting to come and have a moan, and that can happen, but it’s really great when, moving past moaning, people organise. A great example of this is the project to tackle fly-tipping. Picking up the issue from Lockleaze Residents Planning Group and previous forums, Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust worked with artist Scott Farlow and a group of local residents, sponsored by Vistry, to come up with a community designed solution to turn a waste ground into a love ground. This forum will showcase 3 designs for further community input. We don’t have permission, we don’t have funds but with community backing we start to create a strong paper base from which residents can make a difference. Exciting stuff, and if that doesn’t do it for you there’s still lots of cake.
