#ReallyWildLockleaze - Residents turning their close into a nature haven

Residents from Stanfield Close get together to plan how they want to create more space for nature on their green

Last week, residents from Stanfield Close got together with the Really Wild Project and came up with ideas together for how to make more space for nature in the green space outside their houses.

Local resident Katherine has been trying to improve her green for several years, and having found out about how the Really Wild Lockleaze Project is now able to support Lockleaze residents to help nature on their greens and gardens, she said to us

“I want us to be your first green!”

After some door knocking and talking to people, nine of her neighbours got together on their green last week, and made a plan. It includes allowing part of the grassy area to grow long because its already full of wild flowers, that given a chance will make a wonderful feast for pollinating insects and our eyes alike!
They also want to put a wildlife-hedge in, and some fruit bushes, and fruit trees.

Local resident Angela said:

“Anything to do with animals and wildlife is good by me!”

…and this echoed by many of her neighbours. It was so exciting to meet so many people who love nature around Stanfield Close.

Thank you for our partner Avon Wildlife Trust who has supported us door knocking, and also at the planning event, and also the David Wilcox, Lockleaze’s green councillor who showed up to support the residents.

We will be taking the residents ideas to the council to get permission, and hopefully the residents can start work in the autumn to create a wonderful haven for nature and people.

If you have a public space near you in Lockleaze, and you want to get together with your natures to create nature habitat like wild-flower patches, then get in touch with us!
