A New Community Housing Project that give residents Opportunities for Skills Training
We are very pleased to tell you about the launch of our next Community Housing project on the site located off of Turner Gardens—HomeMade Lockleaze. The site is currently home to a number of derelict garages that are in poor condition.
Following our successful bid to Bristol City Council’s land disposal policy, available only to Community-led Housing proposals (see previous announcement here) we recently received grant funding to progress the pre-development work for the project! We are now really excited to get to work on this project alongside our project partners, SNUG Homes and Ecomotive Limited, and with input from all of you, local Lockleaze residents, to create our very own community-led housing project.
The SNUG Home is a low-impact timber frame house constructed off-site with high energy performance. This not only offers lower cost, eco-friendly homes for the Lockleaze neighbourhood but also the opportunity to upskill residents in the process. The first SNUG Home was actually built in Lockleaze with local volunteers, and is now home to a resident in Hillfields, Bristol - see below photo.
The project team are now busy taking the first steps to appoint the required consultants to help prepare our planning application for a small number of homes that will transform this previously developed and underused site into affordable housing for the local community.
And now, as we prepare to look at the details of the development model and strategy for the site, we want to hear from YOU about what you see is most important to help shape this development and future housing in Lockleaze . We will be hosting the first event at 7pm on Wednesday 16th of February where we will be introducing the site, the SNUG home, the development team / partners and a variety of opportunities for you to get involved and be a part of the story.
More details on times and location will be released soon. In the meantime, do register your interest and / or let us know if you have any questions by emailing info@lockleazent.co.uk
