Half Term Climate Action Fun with Lockleaze Green Influencers
By Karen edkins, lockleaze community climate action project lead
The Green Influencers is an amazing scheme that lets young people plan and organise environmental projects they are passionate about and empowers them to make real, sustainable change in their communities.
On Saturday 23/10/21 we started off the meeting with a community litter pick on Gainsborough Square. The Green Influencers organised and promoted the morning including designing their own individual posters and making their own Green Influencers T-shirts, which were all brilliant! The group worked so hard on the project. They all spoke about how they enjoyed meeting like minded children that were also on a mission to save the earth.
Big thanks to Roz the amazing Cook from The National food services Lockleaze for also coming to help on the litter pick. Additional thanks to Jack from The Centre for Sustainable Energy for his passions, enthusiasm and biscuits!
In a survey conducted by VotesForSchools and Unicef UK (The Week Junior), 81% of children said their climate change views were not being listened to. The Green Influencers address this issue with support from local organisations.
There is space in the group for more young people who want to take part in fun activities that can influence others around climate action.
