Welcoming Wednesday! UWE Student Visit to Lockleaze
This week we had the pleasure of welcoming 35 Urban Planning students from the University of the West of England to Lockleaze as part of our twice yearly rolling programme.
We typically meet the students to talk about the role of Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust as a community anchor organisation, in supporting the community to engage with the planning and development process. By illustrating the challenges faced by residents and community groups to meaningfully engage with the process, we aim to instill the importance of effective community engagement in Planners of the future!
On this sunny Autumn day, we discussed local examples of how community action taken here in Lockleaze has shaped and influenced development outcomes across a number of housing projects in the neighbourhood.
As usual, we set the students a task that will not only help improve their knowledge of the planning system but also be of use to LNT, and ultimately to residents. In the past, this has included developing helpful resources around navigating planning applications and the planning portal. This time, they were tasked with researching and presenting relevant information to update our development leaflet - available here. As the leaflet was originally posted out to residents back in 2021, it is important that we refresh the leaflet with up to date information about the various developments to keep the community informed. We will circulate the updated leaflet once the update has been completed.
A big thanks to the UWE staff and students, we look forward to hosting them again next year!
