#VolunteersWeek - Simon

Volunteers - A spotlight on the people who make a difference.

All sorts of people, for all sorts of reasons, volunteer.

As part of Volunteers Week we want to celebrate and show our appreciation for  some of the amazing people who support and contribute to Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust. We hope they inspire and motivate you to make the most of your neighbourhood.

Today the spotlight is on Simon, our volunteer for the Hubbub Cafe and short mat bowls.

I volunteer for Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust and for My Community - an organisation that makes Bristol an even better place for adults with a learning disability. I like to look after myself and others. I like to keep active and enjoy going out on bike rides and also enjoy playing short mat bowls.

I started volunteering about 5 years in the short mat bowls group and I have been volunteering in the cafe for the past year. I did it as I enjoy helping people.

I help run the cafe at the Hub for Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust. I welcome people into the cafe and take their orders. I also help in the set up and clearing away and I help check the money received at the end of the cafe.  I really like all aspects of the jobs and I feel happy that I have made a difference.

Volunteering helps to keep me busy and fit!. I have also learnt to ask a question if Iā€™m not sure about something.

If youre thinking of volunteering, I would say go for it, you will really enjoy it!.

Thank you!

Thank you Simon! From the team at Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust.
