Really Wild September
What we’ve been up to, and what is coming!
Planning for nature on our greens!
In August, residents of Thornycroft Close, and around Landseer Avenue green south, got together at community planning meetings to decide what nature habitat they want to make on their greens. The ideas are now being shared with their neighbours before going to the council for permission.
Have housing green, or verge near you that you want to plant trees, create wildflower patches, fruit bushes etc, then get in touch with Really Wild Lockleaze, and we can support you to plan with your neighbours!
Going batty with Steve England!
18 residents went on a free Bat walk with Steve England across Stoke Park. We used bat detectors to find three different types of bats down by the Duchess Pond - Soprano pipistrelles, Daubentons, and Noctual bats. They swooped around us feeding on the pond, although apparently its bat mating time right now!
Bat facts!
Bats can live to 30 years old!
Bats actually completely shut down and hibernate everyday, which is why you must never disturn them
They eat 3000 insects a night, which is why we must all leave wild spaces in our garden to house insects to feed them!
