Wildlife spotted around Lockleaze!

This week we’ve been delighted to discover some of our more unusual neighbours whilst planting veg in our community growing space and on the Walkfest Wildflower Walk.

We had a great turn out with 29 residents including Dylan one of the top contributors for BS7 Wildlife Facebook group who spotted several unique species including the Cucumber Green Orb Spider and the Green Veined White butterfly. We also talked about a range of plant species which are good for pollinators and noticed how bumble bees were particularly keen on plants from members of the pea family such as vetch and clover In the community growing space we met a very lively slow worm, saw a beautiful shiny green beetle (a Rose Chafer) and a bee fly (Volucella bombylans).

When you walk past the Cameron Centre, pause and check out how busy our meadow areas are, we’ve already spotted some snazzy creatures including damsel flies, wood wasps, bees and hoverflies.

This May why don’t you be a nature detective and see what species you can discover.
