Our greens are wildflower meadows in waiting!
Residents survey plants on Thornycroft close
Really Wild Lockleaze is exploring which are the first public green spaces to start working with residents to create more habitat for nature. Thornycroft close is in the running!
We have had some great chats with residents when we popped up on the green [LINK if ready!] as part of our LNT community pop ups recently. This week, we went out surveying what plants are already on there with two local residents.
We found over 10 species of wildflower, including Birds Foot Trefoil, Cats ear, Rough Hawkbit, and several geranium species.
Although the grass is kept short by the council, these amazing wildflowers are there, and if it was allowed to grow longer in suitable places, it could be very beautiful, and amazing food for pollinating insects.
Belinda, who came along said
“I thought there was nothing here - just barren grass! But there’s so much and it was so interesting, I will love to come and do it again!’’
