Monday Motivation - Community Litter Pick
Monday Motivation #ActiveLockleaze Project
As part of our partnership project #ActiveLockleaze we like to feature regular posts for our Monday Motivation or Spotlight On section.
This is just one of the ways we promote physical activities and sports opportunities in Lockleaze. By sharing providers and participants' personal stories we aim to inspire and motivate and encourage all residents to lead more active lives.
This week we focus on the Community Litter Pick
The weather may have cut short the litter pick this month but we still managed to collect over 10 kg of rubbish around Gainsborough Square and clock up 5012 steps!
Good News
Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust are proud to support 5 young people who have chosen to do 14 litter picks between November and May, as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.
They will be weighing the rubbish collected and keeping a count of how many bags they fill and hopefully recording how many steps they clock up over the coming months.
Supporting residents to take social action in their community is something we are always happy to do.
When asked why they chose litter picking as their volunteering in the community activity, here's what they had to say;
I want to clean up the streets for the locals and I'm doing it as I love the environment" (Samuel)
"To be helpful to the local community and make the area a better looking place" (Henri)
"To make the area cleaner and safer and nicer" (Noah)
"To make the world a better place to live in and help the community" (Edward)
"I want to do litter picking because I want the wildlife to walk around and not eat anything they see and to make sure our neighbourhood is a much safer and cleaner space to live in" (Fabio)
We will keep you updated with their progress and please do give them some encouragement if you see them out and about on a Saturday afternoon.
Well done for helping keep Lockleaze tidy for everyone.
