#MondayMotivation - Getting motivated to explore with our Rose
Monday Motivation #ActiveLockleaze Project
As part of our partnership project #ActiveLockleaze we like to feature regular posts for our Monday Motivation section.
This is just one of the ways we promote physical activities and sports opportunities in Lockleaze. By sharing participants' personal stories we aim to inspire and motivate and encourage all residents to lead more active lives.
This week we share a blog from our fabulous Rose.
My name is Rosie and I work for Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust. My life outside of work can be pretty hectic. I was a primary carer for my mother for 5 years until her recent passing, and I also help to care for my father who suffered a catastrophic stroke at 61. Needless to say there hasn’t been a lot of time to chill and relax or to indulge in self care. My hobbies, interests and wellbeing had to take a back seat.
One of the things that has kept me grounded through the grief and intense-ness is walking my dog, whether this is her two daily, local walks, or getting out to the countryside on the weekends, it has been the one constant in my life that I can rely on that makes me feel clearer, happier and more grounded with a 100% success rate. If you find that time alone walking gets you into your head a bit, try listening to a podcast or an audio book… time really flies then!
Sometimes it can be easy to let the weather put us off but I find that as long as you prepare, and wear the right clothes, walking in most weather is amazing.
If you own a dog, or even just like hiking, I’d recommend breaking away from your usual dog walking routine to explore somewhere new. Not everyone has access to a vehicle, but there are some amazing countryside walks accessible by bus and train, such as getting the bus to Saltford, which you can get to on the X39 from Bristol.
Other fun walks to do around Bristol or slightly beyond with the dog are Uphill, Weston Super Mare, Ashton Court, The docks, Snuff Mills, Oldbury Court, Clifton Downs, Leigh Woods, Troopers Hill, Goblin Coombe, Warmley Woods, Chepstow, Frome Valley Walk Way, plus many more!
If you can, use your dog as your excuse to get out and explore your city or nearby countryside!
