It's National Allotments Week!

It’s National Allotment Week! This year’s theme is ‘Celebrating Biodiversity on UK Allotments’, with a focus on pollinators, wildlife, educating the next generation and more. This fits right in with Lockleaze residents’ nature priority to have ‘access to quality green spaces, wildlife corridors and skills and resources to encourage wildlife and food growing in the community’.

While there is allotment access in Lockleaze, it is only one of the many ways that urban communities come together to work with and learn about nature. Buzz Community Garden provides a safe haven for all kinds of pollinators and insects, as well as being an amazing space for us to come together, socialise and learn new skills. Also, residents working with Really Wild Lockleaze project have done a fantastic job planting trees, fruit bushes and patches of wildflower meadow in their gardens, public greens and verges.

Buzz is open anytime, but manned drop-in sessions are run from 10 til 12 on Wednesday and Saturday, as well as free under-fives nature play on Wednesday 21st August. Work is beginning to transform another round of green spaces with Really Wild Lockleaze (contact ecologist@lockleazent.co.uk if you’d like to see this at your local greenspace!) as well as an ongoing programme of workshops and walks- see Facebook for more details.
