Open up Concorde Way - 3 years closure is too long!
Bristol Cycling Campaign, Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, University of West of England, Ministry of Defence, Sustrans, Bristol Walking Alliance, North Bristol SusCom and Bristol Tree Forum are all calling on Legal and General to prioritise opening Concorde Way in an open letter. Concorde Way is a key part of our sustainable transport infrastructure to support active travel for residents in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
The path was closed to facilitate Legal and General Modular’s development works on 4th April 2021, at which time the organisation communicated that it would be a 6-month closure. Next week is the 3rd anniversary of the closure and we want to see a reopening now achieved quickly.
For every day of the closure, local residents have been prevented from enjoying the community orchard and traffic-free space. The many path users including walkers & cyclists in North Bristol, cycle commuters to/from Bristol city centre & its Northern Fringe campus & enterprise areas and pupils of schools in the locality have been required to follow the on-road diversion placing them at greater danger, compared to using the Concorde Way.
The path was closed as part of the Bonnington Walk development. This site has had many problems. The path should now be a priority for Legal and General. Bristol City Council should put pressure on them to prioritise path development and refuse to authorise further TROs.
Please contact your Councillors, MPs and those wanting to stand for election and make this part of their campaign promises for active travel in and around Lockleaze.
