Art for Wellbeing Group Trip
Last week Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust took some of the Art for Wellbeing group on a visit to the new rail station at Ashley Down to see the artwork they had co-designed with the 1st Bristol Muslim Scout group and the talented, local artist Aumairah.
It was the first time the group had visited the station and used it, and they were impressed with how easy it was to navigate, and how accessible it was.
‘I haven’t been on a train since I was a child. I enjoyed today’ Katherine
We booked Passenger Assist in advance and we were very impressed with how helpful and friendly all the staff we met were. We had a brief stop at Temple Meads where we were shown the area to visit if you need a quiet space or assistance before catching the next train. This was also where you could pick up a map of the walks by train too. https://severnside-rail.org.uk/be-involved/take-a-healthy-walk/
We were also shown all of the resources available on the GWR website to make travelling by train easier and more enjoyable for everyone.
‘I didn’t realise there were so many resources to make travelling by train less stressful. Really useful to know, thank you’ Sarah
The trip was part of the Days Out By Train project with Severnside Community Rail Partnership, WECA and GWR , and we travelled from Ashley Down Rail Station to Avonmouth on a trip called Games on the Train.
We played a few raucous rounds of Bingo and had a very tasty train picnic and really enjoyed seeing the amazing artwork at each of the stations we passed through.
‘Today was good’ Alan ‘I liked Bingo’ Ruth ‘I liked the picnic best’ Linda ‘I liked seeing all the stations’ Mary ‘Thank you’ Zac
Our thanks to Faye from Severnside Community Rail partnerships for such an enjoyable experience.
