The First Ever Blue Plaque for Lockleaze!!
We are delighted to share with you the photos of the unveiling ceremony that took place last week at St James, Lockleaze.
Over 100 of you joined us and the Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Bristol, as we unveiled the long awaited blue plaque for the Rev Ernest Marvin, an inspirational man who helped shape and make the community and co-wrote the passion play A Man Dies.
Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust were very excited to reunite so many of you, in the place it all began over 60 years ago. Each of you shared your memories of your personal connection with the Minister- you attended the youth club, the Church, were involved in the performances, and some were even married by him and your children christened too. Thank you all for sharing your memories and for making some new ones. This was truly a resident led, community driven campaign.
Our thanks and appreciation to Gordon Young and Graham Egarr from the Bristol Civic Society for their advice, knowledge, expertise and amazing support to make it happen- we have learnt so much from you. Together with our Lord Mayor you made this historic day even more memorable. Thank you to Woodlands Church for their support and permission. Thank you to Eugene Byrne from the Bristol Post for his brilliant article and for joining us on the day.
And a huge thank you to Asda Foundation for their contribution towards the refreshments, and to Nico’s Kitchen for the fabulous food.
