Feel Good Friday story: Local resident writes a book!
We have so many talented and creative local residents and recently whilst out in the community, we were fortunate to meet one who kindly shared her story with us.
We thought you'd like to hear it too. Do get in touch with us if you have a local feel good story you would like to share with your community.
Hi, I’m a Suzanne Stewart, a local writer who recently published a fantasy fiction novel, ‘Rowan The Dreamweaver’. It’s in theory for young adults, but in practice it’s been enjoyed by folk of quite an age range – grandparents have bought it for themselves and had their grandchildren take it, and vice versa. It has adventure, romance, humour - and music – in a Bronze Age setting, and it’s the first in a trilogy. People have said, if you like Harry Potter or the Narnian Chronicles, you should like this.

I’d started writing this book pre-Covid in community writers’ group, and then became determined to finish it, to feel I’d done something positive with the lockdown times. I self-published with the help of a local agency (Silverwood Books) because I was so keen to get it out quickly. I also had family help, like my middle granddaughter designing the cover.
I sold a good number of copies directly at local events, which is the most economical way for anyone buying the book (£7.99, instead of £9.99 plus p&p online), plus it means you can ask for a personal dedication. With Christmas coming up, this can include copies you buy for family or friends! I should be at the Horfield Leisure Centre between 12.30 and 3.30 p.m. on Saturday 10 th December – on 24 bus route direct from The Hub. So if you’d like to have a chat with me, and see if you’d like to buy the book, do come along (You can find out more about it in advance via (https://www.facebook.com/rowanthedreamweaver )
