Time to Shine

Back in March I had no idea what getting involved in community acting entailed but I said yes to taking part in it, as it was at a time I could attend!

From the start what I thought I knew about drama was turned on its head. No script, no roles , no costumes and so many ways to contribute.

Through poetry, photos, defining what a word meant to us and even stories around the campfire in the woods.

I learnt so much-about me, about community theatre and more about the incredible women I spent each week with, their courage, compassion, humour and ability to share powerful and thought provoking stories. I made memories and I made friends - all without leaving Lockleaze!.

I was really surprised just how physical rehearsals were. Every Wednesday I had a Fitbit frenzy and smashed my daily goals. On show day I clocked up over 26,000 steps, 11.5 miles! [although that did include dancing at the after party].

Jody, Rosalee and Kate have my admiration and gratitude.

Through their gentle guidance, their skilled direction and patience they supported a diverse group of women from every stage of life and empowered us to create and perform. It was an incredible experience and one I would highly recommend.

We are fortunate to have Acta in Lockleaze, so let's continue to support those who get involved and let's buy a ticket to see a show. Let's ensure the opportunity is there for when it's your time to shine.

Acta Community theatre is affordable, local and really is for everyone.
