peace of mind sessions

“Our life is shaped by our mind, for we become what we think.”

Volunteer mindfulness coach Damien, with wellbeing navigator Jonathan, discussing the benefits of mindfulness and meditation.

Jonathan and Damien have been running a number ‘Peace of Mind’ sessions which are free to attend and suitable for everyone and anyone that is interested in mindfulness and meditation. As well as the regular sessions, they have also held a few ‘follow on’ sessions for those that have a little experience in it, but are still open to all.

To find out when our next peace of mind sessions are, keep an eye on our events page of our Facebook page.

Here’s what a regular attendee, Peter, had to say about one of the sessions he attended:

The last peace of mind session of 2023, was held at the Hub, Gainsborough Square on Thursday 2nd November. This day was noted for the arrival of storm Ciaran hitting our shores with dramatic effect, but all was peace and calm at the hall in The Hub.

Myself and a few others plus Damien (The group Leader) met in the Hall and after introductions and a short period finding out how our week had been up to then, Good, Bad or indifferent.

The session began with Damien explaining why and how slow breathing relaxation exercises would bring benefits if practiced not only at the sessions but also at home or wherever required.

These periods of quiet contemplation will allow time for our thoughts and feelings to have a voice.  We can respond to our own mindfulness towards others around us as well as benefitting ourselves in achieving peace and harmony in our own lives.

Next we moved on to a guided (by Damien) slow breathing exercise to produce a relaxed state amongst the group.  After a slow relaxed return to the room we discussed our feelings, each being unique to the individuals.  All felt relaxed and even calmer after this.

The next exercise was similar to the previous, but on this occasion it was felt a good practice for the group if they could try to achieve a relaxed state individually. This was to get the best benefits for the times when they would be practicing on their own at home or whenever required.

After "returning to the room", we discussed how we felt about the exercise and the benefit we got from it in our own individual ways. The group found this exercise very helpful.

The last bit of time left before the end of the session was taken up comparing and discussing our various forms of relaxation, whether it was music, painting, dancing, running, etc, things that aided our peace of mind.  The conversation flowed as we felt so relaxed and peaceful as a group.

The weather outside might have been dark and cold but in the room at that time it was bright and sunny.  We all felt better for taking part.

We were asked if we would like to meet up and continue in 2024 with Damien, which there was an affirmative "Yes" to this.
